JDK 8
The goal of this Project was to produce an open-source referenceimplementation of the Java SE 8 Platform Specificationdefined by JSR 337 in the Java Community Process.
JDK 8 reached General Availability on 18 March 2014.Production-ready binary distributions based on the JDK 8 codebase are available now from Oracleand will be available soon in most Linuxdistributions.
Development of JDK 8 Update Releases is being done in the nearbyJDK 8 Updates Project.

JDK 8 was the second part of 'Plan B'. The singledriving feature of the release was ProjectLambda. (Project Jigsaw was initiallyproposed for this release but later dropped).Additional features proposed via the JEPProcess were included so long as they fit into the overallschedule required for Lambda. Schedule
The original schedule aimed to ship the release in earlySeptember 2013, but due to an increased focus onbrowser-related security issues that date was not achievable.The final schedule, proposed on 2013/4/18 and adopted on 2013/4/26, was as follows:

The following are the system requirements for installing the JDK and the JRE on macOS:
Java Version 8 For Mac
- Any Intel-based computer running macOS.
- Administrator privileges.You cannot install Java for a single user. Installing the JDK and JRE on macOS is performed on a systemwide basis for all users. Administrator privileges are required to install the JDK and JRE on macOS.
- When you install the JDK, it also installs the JRE. However, the system will not replace the current JRE with a lower version.To determine the current JRE version installed on your system, see Determining the JRE Version Installed on macOS. To install an earlier version of the JRE, you must first uninstall the current version. See Uninstalling the JRE on macOS.
- When you install the JRE, you can install only one JRE on your system at a time. The system will not install a JRE that has an earlier version than the current version.To determine the current JRE version installed on your system, see Determining the JRE Version Installed on macOS.
